KIMEP English Entrance Test (KEET)

Who takes the test:

Applicants for Bachelors and Masters programs

Short description:
Section 1: Grammar Structures

The first section is designed to test the grammar skills of applicants.  Candidates will have to choose the correct word or phrase to complete simple sentences. They will choose from three or four possible answers that may have the same meaning, but only one of which is grammatically correct.    

Section 2: Grammar and Vocabulary in Context

The second section is designed to test the grammar and vocabulary development of applicants. They will read short selections which are missing key words. They will choose the best word to complete the text from among three or four possible answers.

Section 3: Reading Comprehension

The third section is designed to test the reading comprehension of applicants. They will read longer selections and choose from among multiple answers or provide short written responses which best describe the meaning of the text.

KIMEP Undergraduate Admission Test (KUAT)

Short description:

No Sample test will be made available. Students are encouraged to review Internet sites for SAT-type tests.

Section 1: Mathematics and verbal reasoning

This section has 20 questions and is designed to test the quantitative (mathematics) skills of the applicants. Questions in this format require students to work choose one of a group of answers on offer.

Section 2: History

This section has 25 questions. They test the applicant's knowledge of the World History of the XX century.

The KIMEP Standardized Achievement Test is designed to analyse an individual's overall potential for success at University level. It requires accurate quantitative skills and good general knowledge, along with high-level critical thinking.

 

KIMEP Graduate Entrance Exam / MBA, MA

Short description:

Section 1: Problem Solving

The first section is designed to test the quantitative (mathematics) skills of the applicants. Questions in this format require students to work choose one of a group of answers on offer.

Section 2: Data Sufficiency

The second section is also designed to test the applicant's quantitative (math) skills. In this section applicants are not required to solve the questions, but instead are asked to determine if the statements they are given contain enough information to do so.

Section 3: Critical Thinking

The third section is designed to test the applicant's critical thinking skills. Applicants will read a short paragraph, which will pose a challenge requiring them to apply logical rules to reach a conclusion, and choose from among the multiple answers offered. The paragraphs are short, but critical reasoning can take more time than the maths section, because applicants are required to compare, contrast and examine the strengths of various ideas and proposals.

KIMEP Standardized Entrance Essay / BAIJ & MAIJ

Short description:

The entrance essay is designed to enable the applicant can express his or her creative abilities in one of the chosen topics. The essay should be based on the applicant's life experience and personal views and not on literary sources. It should consist of an introduction, supporting paragraphs which develop the main idea, and a conclusion.

ะกriteria used when evaluating the essay:

a) Content - ability to analyze current events based on factual information.
b) Logic - clear, concise development of opinions and ideas.
c) Structure - the framework should be developed so that all the necessary parts contribute to developing the main ideas in turn.
d) Grammar - the essay should be written without mistakes, at a level of language appropriate for written exposition.

KIMEP Graduate Entrance Exam / MIR

120 minutes

Format:

2 one-page essays

Short description:

The KIMEP Graduate Entrance Exam for the MIR program consists of two one-page essays. Essays can be on general issues related to international relations or in the form of a statement on personal goals. Questions do not focus on specific aspects of international relations, but are general in their formulation in order to analyse the applicant's knowledge in the field of international relations and their capability to think logically. Applicants must also show that they have developed some critical writing skills and have a solid command of the English language.

 

KIMEP Graduate Entrance Exam / MA TESOL

Academic reading task, personal statement, essay

Short description:

The KIMEP Graduate Entrance Exam for the MA TESOL program consists of three parts:

1)     Academic reading task: Read a passage from a textbook and fill in the blanks with appropriate English word choices.
2)     Personal statement.
3)     Essay: Respond to a prompt.
