The mission of the Bang College of Business is to offer quality business and management programs, to prepare students to be committed professionals and lifelong learners and to contribute to and take leading positions in business and society. Theory and practice are linked together through teaching, scholarship, and service in order to benefit both students and broader community.
Today, the college is the largest unit of KIMEP University, offering the Bachelor, Master, Masters, DBA and Ph.D. degree programs in Accounting and Audit, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Information Systems.
The Bang College of Business (BCB) programs prepare students to meet the diverse needs of modern Kazakhstan and the worldwide employment markets worldwide. Upon graduation, students will have acquired fundamental knowledge of Marketing, Management, Finance and Accounting and will understand the importance of Information Systems and Computer Applications in business. Moreover, they will demonstrate a firm grasp of theoretical knowledge within their area of specialization. By applying skills and knowledge, the graduates of the Bang College of Business will be able to compete with other highly qualified candidates worldwide and make a significant contribution to business and the development of the public sector.

The College of Humanities and Education was founded, evolving from the Language Center established in 2013. In addition to offering Foundation and Academic English courses, the college began providing undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees, including major and minor programs.
The first programs launched were the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Foreign Languages, as well as the Bachelor of Arts in Translation Studies.
The College introduced a groundbreaking Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science. That same year, the Master’s and PhD programs in Education Policy and Management were also established.
The Bachelor of Science in Psychology was launched.
The College was renamed the College of Human Sciences and Education to better reflect its expanded focus.
The Master of Science in Psychology program was introduced. Additionally, the General Education Department was integrated under the College of Human Sciences and Education.

The Department offers a BA in English and Translation Studies. The Department's mission is to train competent translators who could effectively apply their knowledge of working languages (English, Russian and/or Kazakh), command of the cultural background, translation theory and research skills in practice. The special focus is on developing technology skills to use cutting-edge software and applications that can facilitate and improve translation workflow and output. The Department offers a BA in Foreign Languages and BA in Cognitive Sciences programs. The department has dual concentration: firstly, the department focuses on the application of linguistic knowledge to language pedagogy, particularly the teaching of English to speakers of other languages. Secondly, the department provides a bridge between the humanities and STEM, particularly with focus on cognitive science and computational linguistics. The main objective of the department is to provide quality training of English language teachers and specialists in computational linguistics, AI and data analytics, who are internationally competitive.

Dr. Matthew Hall joined KIMEP University in August 2023 and is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology. He is an active researcher and his interests since 2016 have focused on digital gender-sexual violations (DGSV) examining perpetrator motivations, (dis)continuities between online/offline violations, implications for organizations and social workers, social marketing campaigns, and the bounded limitlessness of DGSV. Media, businesses, and (non)governmental organizations consult with Dr. Hall on DGSV issues. He was the winner of 2024 of the KIMEP University Research Excellence Award for the College of Human Sciences and Education.
Dr. Hall has experience teaching a range of psychology courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, and in face-to-face, distance, and blended learning modes of delivery. His teaching specialisms are in qualitative research methods and social psychological-related courses. In 2022 Dr. Hall supervised a group of students who came third place in the 9th Abu Dhabi University Undergraduate Research Competition.
Dr. Ariya Azamatova is an Assistant Professor and the Chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Translation at KIMEP University, Kazakhstan, where she teaches courses in Latin, Russian literature, and all levels of Russian. Dr. Azamatova has been distinguished with a number of awards for her significant contributions throughout over 30 years of teaching, research, and administrative experience. She was a winner of the State Prize of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the talented young scientists and was awarded the “Meirim” medal by the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan. She has extensive experience teaching Russian as a foreign language, including serving as a visiting professor at Bryn Mawr College, USA, and teaching in the Russian Overseas Flagship program, ACCELS, USA. Her research interests cover topics related to teaching and pedagogy, meta-language and linguistic terminology, intercultural communication and lexicography, and language learning.
Aigul Adibayeva is an Assistant Professor at KIMEP University's College of Human Sciences & Education, department of GE. Her teaching experience in the field of political science and international relations encounters 25 years. Her research has significantly contributed to understanding of political and integrational processes in Central Asia since its independence. Her extensive teaching and research experience allows combining theoretical and practical knowledge into a interdisciplinary approach in teaching the disciplines. The latter includes a range of courses in social sciences and cultural studies areas. Aigul Adibayeva has published extensively in international journals, and currently focuses on the process of regionalism of the Central Asian region.
Dr. Askat Tleuov is an Assistant Professor at KIMEP University's College of Human Sciences & Education, where he also serves in a leadership role as the College Research Director. With a PhD in Education from the University of Bath, UK, he has established himself as an expert in teacher cognition, education policy, and professional development. Dr. Tleuov's research focuses on the knowledge, beliefs, and perceptions of teachers; how these elements manifest in their practice; and the various personal, educational, and professional experiences that shape their development. His work extends to education policy studies and the politics of education, including research on internationalization policies in Kazakhstan. Dr. Tleuov is currently leading two state-funded research projects as Principal Investigator, focusing on higher education reforms through internationalization and creating research-favorable environments in Kazakhstani universities. His commitment to advancing education is evident in his publications, teaching, active involvement in community service, and success in securing research grants.
Aslan S. Tanekenov is an assistant professor of sociology at KIMEP University’s College of Human Sciences and Education in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Aslan began his academic career as a lecturer in sociology at the University of London International (UoL) Program in 2006. In 2008, he received the Best Sociology Teacher Award from UoL. Prior to that, Aslan Tanekenov worked as a project director and consultant on various projects for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Department for International Development (DFID) in the UK, and DCA in Denmark, which funded various NGOs and social enterprises in Kazakhstan. Aslan Tanekenov has also served as a visiting lecturer in sociology at the University of Central Asia (in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) and Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan. Additionally, Aslan is a member of the grant selection committee at the Civil Society Support Center of the Ministry of Information and an expert for the USA-based International NGO Eurasia Foundation's CAYLA Youth Program.
Dr. Dilara Orynbassarova is an Assistant Professor in the College of Human Sciences & Education at KIMEP University. She served on academic and research activities at the University of Pennsylvania (USA), Nazarbayev University, KIMEP University and the Eurasian Research Institute. She also headed the department of analysis and quality in the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, served in the Office of Prime Minister of Republic of Kazakhstan, Department of Informational Analytic Center and Center for Research and Consulting.
She extensively contributes to higher education policy and research, presents at conferences and publishes in international and local journals. Dr. Orynbassarova is passionate about exploring the higher education innovation trends and practices. In particular, her research on interdisciplinary research and multi-stakeholder partnerships, entrepreneurial universities, student research competency, environmental education, and modernizing teacher professional development in Kazakhstan aims to overcome the research-policy divide.
Dr. Elmira Yerkebekova is an associate professor at the Department of Modern Languages and Translation at the College of Humanities and Education at KIMEP University. For 21 years, she has been teaching Russian both to national audiences (courses: Russian language, professional Russian language) and to foreign-language audiences (courses: beginner, advanced Russian language). She is a permanent member of the Association of Russian Language Teachers MAPRYAL. She actively participates in international scientific conferences and forums and has publications. Dr. Elmira Yerkebekova's research interests include: language of mass media, language policy and methodology of teaching languages. She was a language methodologist in the international UNICEF project. She has experience working with official documents and was the university's academic secretary for 12 years.
Elmira Kurmangozhayeva is an Kazakh language instructor with a remarkable career spanning over 25 years, demonstrating profound expertise in teaching language intricacies and cultural subtleties to students. Well-verse in language pedagogy, seasoned professional combines rich experience with a passion for fostering linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding among learners. A dedicated lecturer specializing in teaching the courses "Kazakh Language" providing in-depth instruction, guidance, and support to students as they navigate the fundamentals and complexities of the Kazakh. Lead classes specializing in nurturing Critical Thinking and Creative Writing skills in the Kazakh language, guiding students to explore innovative ideas and sharpen their analytical abilities through engaging and thought-provoking instructional content. Professional experience focuses on the essence of the learning and development process, as well as the practice of traditional language learning.
Dr. Federico Dalpane is an Assistant Professor at KIMEP University's College of Human Sciences and Education. He studied political and legal theory at the Universities of Bologna, Frankfurt am Main, and Berlin (Humboldt). He holds a doctorate in History of political thought from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa, Italy), and a Master of Laws degree from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Almaty, Kazakhstan). Among his research interests are animal law and ethics, political and legal philosophy, and comparative law.
Dr. George Rueckert is Assistant Professor for English and Translation in the College of Human Sciences and Education. He grew up in the US Foreign Service and took his PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Washington, working first for the European Union Center of Seattle and later for the Institute for Anglistik and Amerikanistik at Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany. Arriving at KIMEP in 2011, he developed a Certificate in Translation sequence that evolved into the CHSE’s Bachelors in Translation Studies (BATS) program. He is a prolific scholarly translator from Russian into English, edited the CHSE’s short-lived humanities journal, and created many of its language and humanities courses, including the German-language sequence in the Department of Modern Languages and Translation. His published academic work focuses on topics in literary history.
Dr. Gulnissa Zhunussova is an Assistant Professor at KIMEP University's College of Human Sciences & Education. Prior to joining KIMEP, she taught at universities in Kazakhstan, UK and China. She has been involved in the process of developing a new model of initial teacher education in Kazakhstan in her role as a key expert on the project funded by the World Bank. In this role, she also facilitated curricula design and professional development courses at the national level. She has offered contributions to the knowledge community through ongoing research and publications in Q1 journals.
Hamid Reza Shahbazkia is an associate Professor. With extensive expertise in computer science, including machine learning, bioinformatics, and CAD-CAM systems, Dr. Shahbazkia has contributed significantly to academic and practical advancements. He has held academic positions internationally, directed Erasmus Mundus projects, and supervised numerous doctoral and master’s theses. His current research and teaching focus on computational methods for data analysis, pattern recognition, and biomedical image processing.
Dr. Herman Grobler joined KIMEP University in August 2023 and is a Professor in the Department of Psychology. His research interests focus on mental health and well-being. He is currently part of a research team exploring the burnout of school teachers in Kazakhstan, specifically with regard to cultural identity. He is also affiliated with the North-West University in South Africa, collaborating in research and acting as co-promoter for postgraduate students. One of the research projects focuses on Child and Adolescent Reproductive Health.
Dr. Grobler has experience teaching a range of psychology courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, and in face-to-face, distance, and blended learning modes of delivery. His teaching specialisms are in Mental Health and Well-being and Counselling Psychology. Other areas include Child Development, Family Psychology, Social Psychology, and Learning and Memory.
Juldyz Smagulova is Professor and Founding Dean of College of Human Sciences and Education at KIMEP University, Kazakhstan. Her research can be classified under three major interrelated strands: language ideology; language and education policy; and language pedagogy. These strands are held together by a common scholarly interest in multilingual contexts where different speakers have different access to linguistic and other resources. She has more 20 articles and book chapters published internationally and locally, including papers in journals such as International Journal of Bilingualism, Journal of Sociolinguistics, International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, World Englishes, International Journal of Sociology of Language, and Journal of Eurasian Studies.
Kara Fleming is a sociolinguist whose research interests include language ideologies - what do we believe about language, and what does this show us about our societies?, language policy, and language and identity. Her work also deals with questions of how language is involved in the social construction of space. She completed her PhD in Linguistics at the University of Hong Kong and her M.St. in Linguistics at the University of Oxford. She is originally from Kansas, USA.
Karina Narymbetova is a professional with over 20 years’ experience in education who has developed a diverse teaching and training record. She has made keynote presentations at many national and international conferences and conducted workshops for on various aspects of teaching & learning. Her current research interests are principally in the area of development and evaluation of instructional materials, textbook policies, methods of foreign language teaching
Dr. Konstantinos K. Dimitriou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the College of Human Sciences and Education of KIMEP University, Almaty, Kazakhstan. He is a native of Canada, is a speaker of 4 languages, and has taught in 4 countries. He graduated from Bath University in Great Britain where he received his Ph.D. in Education. His professional teaching experience includes 26 years of teaching Academic Literacy, and 10 years of teaching English as a Foreign Language theory. His current research interests focus on students’ socialization into the Anglophone university, particularly writing. His recent publications include Using a Literacy Tutor's Reflexive Journaling for Addressing L1 Literacy Gaps in a Central Asian EMI University. He teaches Methods of Language Teaching, Curriculum Design, and Academic Reading & Writing at Level 2.
Professor Krishna Mohan Kotra is a Professor of the Department of Psychology. He is an active researcher and his interests since 2000 have focused on Psychological Well-being, effects of Spirituality on Mental Health, Counselling and Psychotherapy issues and received research grants from India, Europe, UK, USA. Prof. Mohan received Professor Yutaka Haruki Young Research Award from Transcultural Society for Clinical Meditation, Italy 2003 and Honorary Professor, University of Flores, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2012. Prof. Mohan is a trained Clinical Psychologist and works with clients integrating eastern body-mind approaches with western approaches for mental health and well-being.
Prof. Mohan has more than 25 years of international experience and worked in Universities Asia and Central Aisa, Europe, UK, Caribbean researching and teaching a range of psychology as well as applied psychology for business, healthcare courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, and in face-to-face, distance, and blended learning modes of delivery. His teaching specialisms are in counselling, psychotherapy, biological psychology, research methods and statistical methods, consumer behaviour and psychological-related courses. In 2005 Dr. Mohan established School of Mental Health at Vidhyasagar Institute of Mental Health of Mental Health and Neurosciences, New Delhi, India and started Department of Psychology at Chinmaya University, India in 2018.
Dr. Kyle is an Associate Professor of Psychology specializing in the study of radicalization and de-radicalization, victims of terrorism, and cultural identity. With over eight years of dedicated research in the Middle East, Dr. Kyle has developed a nuanced understanding of the psychological impact of terrorism on affected individuals and communities. Their work focuses on exploring the factors that drive individuals toward radical ideologies and, conversely, the processes that support successful reintegration and de-radicalization. Dr. Kyle's research also examines the role of cultural identity in shaping responses to conflict and trauma, contributing valuable insights to both academic literature and practical interventions aimed at fostering resilience and healing in post-conflict societies.
Dr. Maganat Shegebayev is an Associate Professor and a chair of the Department of Education at KIMEP University’s College of Human Sciences and Education. Dr. Shegebayev has had 30 years of teaching and administrative experience and has been distinguished with awards for academic and service achievements, including the Certificate of Honor from the Ministry of Education and Science and an Honorary Professor of Kazakhstan from Bilim-Orkenieti National Innovation and Research Center. Five times in his pedagogical practice he has been awarded with the Certificate of Teaching Excellence by KIMEP University. In his activities, Dr. Shegebayev has served as a task force member to develop national program Intellectual Nation-2020. He has authored and co-authored a number of international publications. Dr. Shegebayev has also been involved in various educational and research projects in Central and Southeast Asia, North America, and European Union.
Dr. Nuraisha Bekeyeva is an Assistant Professor of KIMEP University's College of Human Sciences & Education. Dr. Nuraisha has made presentations at local and international research conferences on important and relevant topics concerning the newest technologies of language teaching, literary criticism and Turkology that include Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Turkey, Japan, and Sweden. Currently Dr. Nuraisha has 4 articles listed in her Scopus with a Hirsch index of 3. Dr. Nuraisha is an author of 1 monograph, 4 textbooks, and more than 50 scientific and methodological articles. Professor completed professional internships at the Chinese Xinjiang University of Education 2015 and Turkish Gazi University in 2018.
Dr. Nuraisha has more than 80 special thematic and qualification certificates, several letters of appreciation. Professor has also been a compiler of test tasks and an expert on listening in the phonetics section of the KAZTEST Center.
Santiago De Lasala Porta is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at KIMEP University's College of Human Sciences & Education. He is a former military officer and academic with a rich background in both military service and philosophical studies. After completing his degree in the Spain’s General Military Academy and the Artillery Academy, he served as Officer in different NATO and UN operations as expertise in artillery and military strategy, combined with civil-military cooperation.
Transitioning from military service, Santiago pursued a passion for philosophy, earning a degree from the University of Santa Croce in Italy and later completing a master and a doctorate in Moral Theology at the University of Navarra in Spain. His academic research has deepened his understanding of ethics, bridging his military experience with a philosophical perspective. Santiago’s dedication to education and leadership continues to guide his work as he aspires to a research in new areas of Philosophy.
Dr. Sham Haidar is an associate professor in Department of Education, KIMEP University’s College of Human Sciences and Education. Over two decades of Experience of teaching and research he has established himself a well-known researcher in TESOL, sociolinguistics, equity in education, language and power, language and identity, Neoliberalism and English language and technology. His research has contributed in understanding the role of the English language in Pakistan and other non-English speaking countries and its contribution to the social inequality and transformation of class structure over the generations among the non-English speaking countries. He has successfully supervised PhD and MPhil scholars who have published in international journals and pursue higher studies and serve in different countries around the world. He has published many research articles in ISI indexed journals and chapters in books published by well-known publishers. He has done several research and social uplifting projects with United States Department of State, World Learning, USAID and Higher Education Commission Pakistan. He is looking forward to work in the field of academic writing, language policy, technology and language teaching in Central Asia.
Dr. Su Jin Lee is an Associate Professor of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at KIMEP University's College of Human Sciences & Education. A Korean national, she brings 15 years of teaching experience to her role. Dr. Lee earned her Ph.D. in Linguistics from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2009. Before joining KIMEP in 2017, she served as the Head Researcher and Director of the Practical English Education Center at Hanyang University in South Korea. In recognition of her success, Dr. Lee has received the “Teaching Excellence Award” twice, for the Academic Years 2018-2019 and 2021-2022, from KIMEP University. Additionally, she is currently teaching at the Saturday Korean Language School in Almaty, where she is committed to helping Korean children successfully maintain their ethnic language and identity. Her most recent book was published in 2023 entitled “The future of English education and ChatGPT.” A dedicated educator, Dr. Lee is passionate about her teaching and actively seeks to enhance her instructional methods to foster critical thinking and deep understanding among her students.
Dr. Timur Akishev earned his Ph.D. in Second Language Studies from the University of Mississippi and an M.A. in Foreign Languages from North Kazakhstan State University. His research focuses on corpus-based approaches to code-switching, generative syntax, and morphology, particularly within the context of Kazakh and Kazakh-Russian language contact. Dr. Akishev has published in the field of applied linguistics and presented his work at numerous international conferences. Additionally, he serves as an editor and reviewer for academic journals, contributing to the advancement of linguistic scholarship. Alongside his research endeavors, Dr. Akishev teaches a variety of courses, including phonetics and phonology, morphology and syntax, corpus linguistics, computational linguistics, and discourse analysis. In his teaching, he applies programming with Python and utilizes applications like AntConc and Praat to enhance student learning. He also actively supervises both undergraduate and graduate theses and regularly organizes the Morphosyntax Club and Linguistics Reading Group.
Dr. Ulzhan Kazybekova is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at KIMEP University's College of Human Sciences & Education. She has been working as a lecturer of various social science disciplines at universities in Kazakhstan for 15 years. She enjoys teaching and like being a lecturer due to professional intercommunication with students, observing them becoming more mature adults and finally influencing their intellectual development. After getting her PhD degree, she has acquired more international knowledge and experience, which she is passionate to share with the younger generation of Kazakhstan, who are highly motivated students of the KIMEP University. Her teaching values come along with her intrinsic desire and great passion to deepen the knowledge of students in social sciences, that covers sociology, psychology and political sciences. Each of the disciplines include important topics related to our society, such as inequality, personality, politics, people’s attitudes and social patterns.

College of Human Sciences and Education houses Center for Educational Excellence (CEE). The aim of this center is to provide a life-long professional development, internship, and re-qualification for professionals in the field of education. The CEE strives to enhance the quality of learning, teaching, scholarship, and educational management by being a change agent supporting the transformation of Kazakhstan's education system.

The Education Leadership Club is a platform specifically created for experts, managers, and directors of schools and colleges. Here, participants discuss current topics related to educational methods, leadership, and management, as well as share their experiences and engage in discussions on various subjects.
Starting in the Fall semester of 2023, our instructors, Karina Narymbetova and Yekaterina Rudenko, are launching a methodological club for foreign language teachers. The club is open to school and university educators teaching English, Kazakh, or Russian as a foreign language. Meetings will be held monthly to discuss the latest research in the field and its practical applications for teaching and learning. The club’s goal is to support educators in exploring modern teaching methodologies, sharing best practices, and engaging with the latest research in foreign language education. Through interactive discussions, workshops, and presentations by experienced professionals and researchers, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their expertise and enhance their teaching practice.
The Academic Learning Studio was established by the College of Human Sciences and Education in order to help KIMEP students to achieve better results in courses and programs offered at KIMEP University. The Studio is located in 230/Dostyk building and is a place where students can find many materials to help them with their language learning and other studies as well as have some practice in communication with English, Kazakh and other language tutors and native speakers. It is open to all students, from those enrolled in Foundation English to Master’s and Doctoral level courses.
Kazakh Club
The main goal of the Kazakh club is to help individuals overcome any fear or uncertainty about learning the Kazakh language. It aims to create an environment that fosters effective practice, enabling participants to confidently speak Kazakh. Throughout the project, members will not only improve their grammar skills but also engage in regular speaking exercises. The belief is that through active communication and continuous support, participants will strengthen their knowledge and be able to express themselves fluently in Kazakh.
Russian Club
The Russian Speaking Club at KIMEP University began its activities in October 2023. Its members include students from the UK, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Korea, the USA, and Norway, all of whom have come to Almaty to take intensive and regular Russian language courses. Throughout the academic year, club participants have explored and reviewed numerous grammatical and lexical topics. Weekly meetings provide opportunities for students to learn new material, participate in interactive games, and discuss current events in Russian, enhancing both their language skills and cultural understanding.
“Torap” sociolinguistics club
The club's goal is to promote sociolinguistic knowledge and advocate for linguistic equality. During the meetings, participants will explore the deep connection between language, history, and society. The organizers hope that this knowledge will help attendees gain a better understanding of current sociolinguistic processes both in the country and globally, recognize the importance of protecting linguistic diversity, and appreciate the need to preserve and develop native languages.
The Student Research Poster Competition, launched in Fall 2017 as part of the Academic Reading and Writing II course, is held at the end of both the Fall and Spring semesters. The competition's primary goal is to promote research among KIMEP University students, offering ARWII students a platform to present their research to a broader audience beyond their classmates.The event is meant to be a culmination and celebration of students’ semester-long intellectual effort.
Open to all students enrolled in the ARWII course, each CHSE instructor can recommend one student to participate. The event allows instructors and students from across the university to observe a wide range of research projects. Poster presentations are judged on-site by an ad hoc committee made up of KIMEP faculty members, who will select the top six presentations: one first-place, two second-place, and three third-place winners. Additionally, the audience can vote for their favorite poster, with the most popular receiving the Audience Choice Award. The top three projects receive prizes.
The Student Fashion Design Art competition aims to encourage student creativity, develop visual communication skills, and offer engaging extracurricular activities. The winning teams' fashion exhibits will be displayed in the Dostyk and Valikhanov buildings next semester. Initiated by Dr. Bang, President of KIMEP University, and Dr. Brian Davis, Dean of the General Education Department, the first competition and exhibition took place in Fall 2023 and will be held every semester.
Students in the Introduction to Fashion Design course participate with their final projects. Jury voting is conducted online, assessing concept, visuals (mood board), and illustrations, each scored out of 10 points. The top three group projects receive cash prizes.
Expected dates of future competitions:
CHSE organized the "Why I Chose to Be..." Instagram Reels competition, which invited CHSE students to create 60-90 second vertical videos. The videos told personal stories about why students chose their majors, the skills they were developing for their future careers, and the benefits of being a CHSE student. The videos were voiced in English, Kazakh, or Russian, with mandatory English subtitles.
The competition ran from March 1st to March 26th, and the winners were announced on April 10th. Cash prizes were awarded to the top three participants: 100,000 KZT for first place, 70,000 KZT for second place, and 30,000 KZT for third place. The winning videos were also featured on the main @kimep_university Instagram page.
On Monday, April 22, 2024, CHSE hosted Spring Inklings, a lively celebration of literature, translation, and the works of Anton Chekhov and William Shakespeare. The event began with Chekhov Forever: A Short Play on Themes from Chekhov, performed by KIMEP students, followed by an Open Poetry Mike in Honor of Shakespeare’s Birthday, where attendees recited poems in English, Russian, and Kazakh.
The highlight was the Verse Translation Contest, featuring 600,000 tenge in prizes across four categories: English-to-Russian, English-to-Kazakh, Kazakh-to-English, and Russian-to-English. The festival brought together students and faculty for an inspiring evening of literary celebration.
The Academically Speaking competition is open to students enrolled in the Academic Speaking course. Each student undergoes a selection process to qualify as a final participant. An ad hoc committee judges the competition on-site. Participants deliver a persuasive speech addressing a problem and proposing a solution, accompanied by visual aids. The committee selects the top speeches, awarding a single first place, two second places, and three third places. Audience members also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite speech.
