TEXTBOOK RENTAL
The Library operates a Textbook Rental System to assist students who cannot purchase their required course materials.
Textbook rental involves the placement of a mandatory security deposit for the use of rented textbooks. The amount of the security deposit is determined by the KIMEP University administration and may be revised periodically. To rent textbooks, a student must return the deposit to the original amount before the start of the following semester.
1. The process of textbooks rental
1) The student places a security deposit in the amount of 66 010 KZT by bank transfer. See bank requisites at https://www.kimep.kz/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Payment_information_BCC_new_eng.pdf.
2) Then the student check out textbooks assigned to his or her course at the circulation desk, library 2nd floor. In order to rent a book the student must provide the confirmation of registration for the class (transcript) and ID card.
3) The Library charges a rental fee for all textbooks provided. The amount of the rental fee is 25% of the cost of the book and it is deducted from the textbook security deposit.
2. Return of security deposit
At the end of a student’s career, the remaining balance of the security deposit is returned to the student.
According to KIMEP University policy the balance of the deposit is returned to those person who made the payment. To avoid the problems with the balance return the payments are recommended to be made by one person (preferably by student).
Refund of security deposit is made in the following order:
1) The student makes online request available at the website www.kimep.kz (Student’s portal, Library refund)
2) The Student submits following documents:
• IBAN code
• Copy of the state ID card
The balance of the security deposit is transferred to the student’s bank card account within 10 business days after the request is made and the documents are submitted. The balance of the security deposit is not refundable after 3 years from the date of graduation.
3. Return of textbooks
Within 10 business days after the end of final exams the student must return all rented textbooks for a semester to the circulation desk located in the library 2nd floor in a good condition except the case of normal wear and tear.
Failure to return the rented textbook for the semester on time will result in an overdue fine of 1 450 KZT. If the rented textbook is not returned within 10 business days of the start of the following semester, the repeated rental fee will be taken from the student’s security deposit without notice.
Rules of renting textbooks are subject to change.
LAPTOP RENTAL
The Library proposes to students a service of laptop rental.
Request on a laptop rental is formed at the Student Portal. Laptops are issued to students in the office #101 of the library for a rental fee in accordance with the KIMEP University Laptop Rental Rules.
Laptop rental fee is deducted from the textbook security deposit. The student should in advance refill the balance of the textbook security deposit with the necessary laptop rental fee amount. The amount of the rental fee is determined by the KIMEP administration and may be revised periodically. Rental payment is not refunded, including the case in early returning of laptop. Exception shall be made for early returning of a laptop by the request of the University.
Two rented periods are stipulated:
- 30 calendar days (a minimum rental period) with the rental fee of 11 500 KZT;
- One semester with the rental fee for Fall- 45 000 KZT; for Spring- 45 000 KZT;
for Summer I- 22 500 KZT; for Summer II- 11 500 KZT.
The laptop rent is documenting with Rental Contract and Transference and Acceptance Act.
The laptop must be returned no later than within 3 business days following the date of the end of the rental period, indicated in the Transference and Acceptance Act, with all personal records and data deleted. Upon the laptop return, Library personnel and Computer and Information Systems Center staff will check the laptop for damages. If any damage detected, student must pay fees and/or fines according to the KIMEP University Laptop Rental Rules.
Should the laptop become non-operable due to the fault of the student, the student shall cover the complete cost of repair.
The University has a right to deduct the amounts for damage recovery, laptop repair and penalties from the student’s textbook security deposit, as well as from the amount of any positive balances of a students’ account in the University. If the balance of such accounts is not sufficient, a student shall repay the difference within 5 business days from the moment of receiving an appropriate request from the University by refilling the balance of textbook security deposit.
In the event of rent arrears of paying the rental fee and/or fines, the University has the right to block the student’s account until the debt is fully paid off, i.e. the student will not be able to register for courses and to take final exams.
