On December 9, 2016 the Department of International Academic Mobility (DIAM) of KIMEP University JSC held two significant events. The first was the opening of the Going Global office. The Office is specifically designed to provide international students with an opportunity to spend time together, share news and advice, discuss various topics and initiates, prepare for events, and just drink tea. The Director of the Department Elmira Suleimanova and Department employees Aizhan Akhmetova and Sholpan Orazaliyeva officially opened Office 408 of Dostyk Building by officiating the ribbon cutting ceremony, and treated all who came to a big festive cake.

The second event was the Country Day that is always associated with picturesque impressions, new information on other nations and their traditions, new friends, and wonderful national treats. Everybody is always looking forward to these kinds of events because it provides for a great opportunity for students, staff and guests of the University representing various countries to talk and get to know each other. This time the Country Day was special – DIAM employees Aizhan and Sholpan prepared presentation about Kazakhstan. Dressed in Kazakh national costumes, they demonstration oriental flavor and beauty of Kazakh women as if they stepped down from “Kyz Zhibek” movie excerpts of which were shown to the guests. Tajikistan was the second country presented at the event. Students Nilufar and Malika who came from this mountainous country, told us about its ethnic diversity, about a difference between Pamirs and Tajiks, about their traditions, and shared interesting moments of their families’ lives. Surprised audience learned that there are much more ways of making pilaf than most of them imagined.

Of particular interest were Tajik national costumes, as well as emotional music that guests could not only listen, but dance to along with the performers.
