In cooperation with international organizations, KIMEP University takes part in several international projects, which offer remarkable opportunities on campus and abroad, generate intellectual excitement, and provide the University community with access to vital international knowledge.
One such project is the Tempus Project, which was initiated by the European Union. It aims to support the modernization of higher education in the Partner Countries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean region, mainly through university cooperation projects.
In 2015 on the base of the Information Сentre “Globus” of the Department of International Academic Mobility the Office of Bologna Process and National Qualification Framework (NQF) of TEMPUS QUADRIGA Project “Qualification Frameworks in Central Asia: Bologna-based principles and regional cooperation” was opened.
It assigned to:
– consolidate informational materials about Bologna process;
– serve as the resource centre on Bologna process at KIMEP University;
– serve as meeting place of expert community consisting of professors, staff, students and partners.
The Office uses equipment bought on means of the TEMPUS QUADRIGA project.

QUALIFICATION FRAMEWORKS IN CENTRAL ASIA: BOLOGNA-BASED PRINCIPLES AND REGIONAL COORDINATION Priority – “Qualifications frameworks” Duration: 2 years (2012-2014). Partners QUADRIGA involves 3 out of 5 TEMPUS countries of Central Asia. Three-year QUADRIGA initiative is led by the University of Koblenz‐Landau (Koblenz, Germany). QUADRIGA consortium includes European partners from Germany, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Austria and the Poland and Central Asian partners from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Wider Objective: To approach the Central Asia Countries’ higher education to real needs of economic and social development of these countries.
The QUADRIGA project is a break through initiative to identify common denominators in the academic sectors in CA area. The project is going to be implemented in the context of the Bologna Process, creation of one European Qualifications Framework and the subject area reference points developed by Tuning. Furthermore the project seeks to create European wide transparency with regard to higher education and training. This will allow for improved recognition of formal, informal and non formal learning against clear internationally established reference points. At present the Higher Education sector is working with the two existing European Qualification Frameworks. A Qualifications Framework is a common reference framework which links countries’ qualifications systems, acting as a translation device to make qualifications more readable and understandable across different countries and systems in Europe. A sector is understood here as a combination of related fields of study which is based on more or less comparable learning profiles. Points of departure in this exercise the reference points at subject area level as developed in the Tuning projects. The QUADRIGA project seeks to develop a credit based sectored qualifications framework to cover the levels 6 to 8 of the European Qualification Framework (EQF) for Life Long Learning (LLL).
The main objective of the project is to approach the Central Asia Countries’ higher education to real needs of economic and social development of these countries. The most important objectives are the following: -analysis of the situation in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan; -establishment jointly with national Ministries of Education, National Committees on Qualification Frameworks in each of the partner countries and organise Regional CA Network of Committees on Qualification Frameworks; -improvement of national General Regulations concerning education standards in particular fields, on the basis of qualification framework ideas, Bologna principles and the EU universities’ experience; introduction of new national standards in the participating CA countries for information science; mapping of progression routes on the basis of standardized questionnaire; -preparation of subject area and sectored level descriptors for the levels 6, 7 and 8 for informatics by the groups of professionals from National QF Committees. Besides capacity building for standards development in participating partner countries the project seeks to develop a credit based sectored qualification framework for the sector of Information Sciences. The framework is intended to cover the levels 6 to 8 of the European Qualification Framework (EQF) for Life Long Learning (LLL). Realization of the project will provide background for modernization of curricula, promote closer cooperation and understanding between universities and employers (enterprises, industries, public sector) what is finally aimed to be beneficial for graduates of higher education institutions of Central Asia. Executive Master in Development Policies and Practices (DPP Program) Since 2013, KIMEP University has partnered with the Graduate Institute of Geneva to serve as the Regional Hub for Central Asia for the Executive Master in Development Policies and Practices (DPP) Program.
The DPP program seeks to contribute to sustainable and effective development actions that are equitable and respectful of cultural and social diversity. This six month program is designed for professionals who currently hold or aspire to key positions in development and national/international cooperation roles in public or private sector organizations, NGOs, or civil society associations. A university degree and several years of professional experience are required for application.
Module 1 of the program is held at KIMEP University for five weeks in July-August, and courses are taught by professors from the Graduate Institute of Geneva and KIMEP University faculty from the College of Social Sciences.
