In the spring semester of 2019, within the framework of the courses of professors of the College of Social Sciences Gulnara Dadabayeva – “The History of Diplomacy from 1815 to 1945” and Aigul Adibayeva – “Foreign Policy of Kazakhstan” Diplomatic talks took place, where employees of foreign affairs missions accredited in Kazakhstan told students of the International Relations department about their country, its features, political and economic development, as well as their experience and path to the diplomatics.
This cycle was opened by Mr. Gyorgy Tar, Advisor on Trade and Economic Issues of the Consulate General of Hungary in Almaty, a graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations who focused on modern economic development of Hungary, its trade potential and integration of the country’s economy into the European market.
The second Diplomatic Talk was held by Mr. Gilles Mametz, Attaché for Education of the Consulate General of France in Almaty. The diplomat spoke about his experience in the post-Soviet countries, including Russia and Kazakhstan, about the development of his diplomatic career and projects implemented in Kazakhstan. The students asked a lot of questions about France, as well as about educational opportunities in the country and the joint Abai-Vern program.
The cycle of diplomatic conversations in the spring semester was completed with the presentation of the Latvian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Mr. Juris Pogrebnaks. The special presentation of Mr. Ambassador was devoted to the history of the creation of Latvia as a state, its place in the Baltic region and participation in the pan-European process. Currently, the country is a member of the European Union, NATO, the UN, the Council of Europe, the Council of the Baltic Sea countries, the WTO, the OECD, and is part of the Euro zone. Mr. Ambassador also focused on the development of Kazakh-Latvian relations, as well as the strategy of Latvia in the countries of Central Asia.
The cycle of spring diplomatic conversations at the College of Social Sciences made it possible to complement the theoretical knowledge of students and learn the subtleties and nuances of the diplomat’s profession first-hand.
