Guest Lecture: “What Can We Learn from Korean Economic Development?”
By Professor Joung Yong Lee from School of Logistics at Inha University in Tashkent (Uzbekistan)
at 14:30-15:45, on Monday, April 22, 2019 in Hall #1 New Academic Building.
South Korea has dramatically transformed its economy from one of the poorest countries in the world to a developed, high-income country in just one generation. Its GDP per capita in 1960 was less than $100 but had grown to $30,000 by 2015. Nowadays South Korea is a global leader in manufacturing smartphones, LCD TVs, automobiles, and ships.
Professor Lee will talk about how the economy of South Korea could achieve this so-called “miracle of the Han River.” He will explain not only the ingredients of this economic growth, but also its side effects, so we can learn from the experiences of a forerunner.
