Delivery Dates: June 15th – July 1st, 2020

Workshop goal:

The goal of this self-paced Professional Development program, which will lead to a remote learning certificate from KIMEP University, is to help faculty expand knowledge and skills to improve online teaching and learning and to apply these skills to future courses for AY 2020-2021. This will foster communication and maximize student engagement.

Workshop description:

The workshop is designed to help KIMEP faculty establish or improve their own online or blended teaching practices. It focuses on many different approaches from delivering online classes to facilitating discussions and collaboration between students, as well as ways to encourage and support them in self-guided learning.

Learning outcomes

  • Use a range of online technologies in learning, teaching, and course design;
  • Evaluate different course designs involving digital technologies and online learning activities appropriate for a range of teaching contexts;
  • Demonstrate independent enquiry and reflective practice.

Course Plan

Week 1: Remote Teaching and Learning

Module 1: Introduction to this Program – Effective Instructional Design

Module 2: Setting Goals, Leading Groups Online, and Best Practices

Module 3: Habits of Mind, and Tools to Try

Module 4: The Human Touch/Creating Equitable Environments

Module 5: Assessment Practices, and the Reasoning Behind Them

Format: Zoom live sessions with Dr. Monica McEnerny, Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, Associate Professor at Castleton University, USA

Dates: June 15th – June 19th

Time: 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Week 2:  Online Design and Teaching Workshops  

Format: Zoom online classes and office hours in groups (ZOOM meeting information is available on the MOODLE platform)

Dates: June 22nd – June 26th, 2020

Time: 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm (detailed schedule of office hours is to be provided)

Week 3: Individual Projects & Assessment

  • Reflection practices & peer evaluation
  • Faculty Showcase

Format: Individual projects and Zoom meetings with Dr. Monica McEnerny

Dates: June 29th – July 1st, 2020

Time: 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Course Details

Participants will explore 5 modules during one week of online instruction (June 15-19), with one additional week of support by KIMEP mentors (June 22-26). Evidence of completion will be provided in a proficiency tracker assignment. An optional, final share session will take place on July 1 at 6:30 p.m.  A certificate will be provided once all requirements of the program are completed.

Important points:

  1. Availability of equipment (a computer/telephone, a camera, a microphone),
  2. Access to ZOOM and Moodle platforms,
  3. 100% submission of individual assignments.
