Spence is a recipient of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences “for their analyses of markets with asymmetric information” together with George Akerlof and Joseph Stiglitz Professor at the Stern School of Business at New York University, and the University of Bocconi.
A key expert in macroeconomics, development economics, competition, the impact of innovation, and market signaling. Famous students of Michael Spence are Microsoft stakeholders Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer.
